Kitchen & Primary Suite Renovation – Berkeley, CA (2022)
Designed while working at Canyon Design Build

This renovation focused on expanding the kitchen into the backyard to improve flow between the kitchen and dining areas while reimagining the primary suite for increased functionality. Design options included a three-foot bump-out to the roof line or a six-foot extension aligned with the dining room. I evaluated cantilever solutions and foundation tie-backs to address zoning setbacks and minimize new structural work.
Key design strategies included removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room to enhance openness, and reworking the kitchen layout from the studs—addressing flooring, finishes, lighting, and structural reinforcement. The project also explored removing the partition between the dining and living rooms for greater spatial continuity.
The primary suite transformation included converting the closet into a combined wardrobe and office space. I focused on optimizing natural light and tailoring storage with custom configurations for hanging, shelving, and drawers. Window redesign and placement were coordinated to bring daylight into the newly defined areas.
